Pål Jonson is Sweden’s Minister of Defence since 2022. Prior to this, he was the Chairman of the Committee on Defence in the Swedish Parliament (2020-2022) and spokesperson for the Moderate party on defence issues. He entered Riksdagen in 2016 and has among other positions served as Vice-Chairman of the Committee on European Affairs and as Chairman of the Swedish-Japanese Parliamentary Friendship Group. He previously served as Director of Communication for the Swedish Security and Defence Industry Association; as Political Advisor at the Ministry of Defence and as an analyst at the Swedish Defence Research Agency. In addition, he has been a visiting fellow at the NATO Defence College in Rome. He holds a BSFS from Georgetown University, an MA in political studies from the College of Europe and a PhD in War Studies from King College.
